The grid operator continuously uses Ancillary Services to maintain real-time grid stability, these reserves are competitively procured from generation and load resources with strict fast-response requirements. This is not demand-response, where loads are incentivized to curtail.

Demand-response: load turns off in response to high prices. Ancillary Services: load stays on despite high prices because they are being paid by the grid operator to stay on in reserve, just as a generator in AS would be paid to stay off. Completely different, often conflated.

It's wild that on the other end of bitcoin mining, two orthogonal terms are also often conflated: network security and transaction finality. And in both cases, it's often industry experts doing the mix-up.
