Imagine Xinomavro making love to Syrah on a bed of blueberries, or loganberries. That'd be Persan, of which there is, in toto, only 15ha. #Savoie

So I did open it, and, blind, you might well have thought it was an Assyrtico—showing the potential of Savatiano. x.com/BlindTasters/s…

At 6 years old, this Syrah blend from a small grower in Puechabon, #Languedoc is the perfect mélange of mouthwatering fruit and savoury old brick. Bon weekend!

Feuerberg, 'Fire Mountain', the name says it all. Now, if I were the VDP, I would consider upgrading this vineyard from Erste Lage to Grosse Lage. #Kaiserstuhl #Spatburgunder #Baden #Bercher

Japanese ale brewed with an ancient red rice normally used for sake. Somewhat bitter and somewhat sweet, with notes of strawberry and cherry, refreshing acidity, and a smooth, umami finish. Paired with tempura-ed salmon futomaki. A nice alternative to my usual Asahi!

A good grower champagne from the Côte des Bar, and almost a blanc de noirs (90% Pinot Noir). Fun fact: being closer to Chablis than to Reims, the Côte des Bar (or Aube) is mostly planted to Pinot Noir. x.com/NHashmiDeputyP…

The biodynamically farmed Riecine vineyards are in the northern zone of Gaiole in Chianti, where the altitude and rockier Albarese soils make all the difference.

A very substantial and profound Beaujolais, owing to old vines that root through the deep topsoil and into the granitic base. Great value.
