RIP to a fascinating man. I wrote about Eric in “Corruptible.” He spoke to me at length, was extremely candid about morally complex topics, and was one of the most memorable people I’ve interviewed.

The number of people on the political right who made memes and cracked jokes about an attempted murder is absolutely grotesque.

If one in five current blue ticks paid $20 a month that would raise just under $15 million a year for Twitter…Twitter’s current revenues (mostly from ads) are $5 billion a year. Musk’s apparent plan would generate about 30 hours’ worth of annual revenue. newstatesman.com/quickfire/2022…

The rising stars in the Republican Party find it hilarious that an 82 year old’s skull was fractured when he was beaten on the head with a hammer in an attempted assassination of the Speaker of the House. He was inspired to hunt her down based on lies they continue to spread.

Amazing clip from an Arizona election denier interviewed on national radio here in the UK by BBC Radio 4 Today:

“What’s your proof the election was stolen, as you claim?”

“I have intuition.”

“Don’t you need more than a hunch?”

“Not in America.”

If facts eliminated conspiracy theories we’d be fine. They don’t. MAGA people are going to be spreading lies and calling this attempted assassination a hoax for years. It’s an entire political movement that simply doesn’t care about verifiable truth, as evidenced by the Big Lie.

The man who nearly killed Paul Pelosi was acting on conspiracy theory lies pushed by prominent Republicans, from Trump downward. He fractured Pelosi’s skull but was planning to attack the Speaker of the House with a hammer. Republicans continue to joke about the attempted murder.
