Cat-lovers will recognise the struggle 🐈

This sketch is a fabulous example of Da Vinci’s ability to capture expressions: just look this cat's clear disdain as it squirms within an overly eager embrace!

🎂 Leonardo Da Vinci was born in 1452.

Visiting over Easter? Don’t forget to book your free ticket in advance to receive information before your visit and priority entry during the busiest periods. And be sure to hunt down this ostrich-egg cup in Room 2a 🐣, made in Prague between 1570-80.

✨ The Tusk Cosmetic Spoon from the 18th Dynasty takes the form of a graceful duck with a unique twist.

🐟 The design is perfect for storing scented fat or oil. In ancient Egypt, cosmetics were more than adornments: they were a cultural tapestry.

A Welsh wonder on display this 🥬✨

With its dramatic coastlines and rugged mountains, the unspoiled beauty of the Welsh countryside has inspired artists for centuries.

🏞️ Do you recognise the renowned Welsh beauty spot depicted in this watercolour by Turner?

‘This little piggy cried wee wee wee all the way home’ 🐷🏡

This little piggy is a rattle that was used to keep youngsters entertained! The rattle is still intact inside 🪇

We wouldn’t recommend shaking this one, though - it’s made of terracotta and is from around 300 BC!
