Over 50% of #ScotWind investment in Scotland is planned to go into "manufacturing and fabrication" - this would be a huge domestic increase in this activity and a fantastic opportunity to build in #circulareconomy to its industrial strategy.

Keynote session underway at #RUKGOW22; hearing from supply chain that material availability is a massive concern, particularly price fluctuation in #steel. Offshore wind will be the “new normal” but we can’t rely on linear models to deliver it.

Welsh steel for Welsh renewables. Using a demand pipeline to underpin investment in decarbonisation of heavy industry is now tried and tested - look at H2 Green Steel and what Sweden has done with the automotive sector. No technical reason why this can't be done in the UK.

A timely reminder from Green Alliance that the best future for UK steel doesn't involve #coal. It does involve local jobs, reducing emissions, and increasing the resilience of the #renewables supply chain. But needs urgent electricity market reform to make this happen. ⚡️

15Mt of #steel needed for #offshorewind in Scotland by 2050. With volatile commodity prices and low CfDs we need a credible #lowcarbon plan for #materials - and with the UK exporting 10Mt of scrap steel every year that is a good place to start.

"Clean steel will soon be the only steel". Time for the UK to decide if it wants to be part of this.

Good thread on new policy drivers that will accelerate #steel decarbonisation in the EU. UK Gov + industry needs to act now to keep up with progress!

UK steel demand growing as it builds more low carbon infrastructure, with 5Mt to meet 2030 #offshorewind targets alone. But where will it all come from? Words of Community Union "if we want to go green it is nonsensical to transport steels from the other side of the world".

Circular economy is no.6 on the list of priority missions for net zero in the #NetZeroReview 💚to see circularity getting the recognition is deserves 👏
