Delighted to be chairing #HIGreenEnergy today. Great keynote by Stuart Black taking us all on a tour of the region and demonstrating an absolute wealth of #renewables projects in the Highlands and Islands. Panels to follow on #skills #innovation and #infrastructure.
Welsh steel for Welsh renewables. Using a demand pipeline to underpin investment in decarbonisation of heavy industry is now tried and tested - look at H2 Green Steel and what Sweden has done with the automotive sector. No technical reason why this can't be done in the UK.
A timely reminder from Green Alliance that the best future for UK steel doesn't involve #coal. It does involve local jobs, reducing emissions, and increasing the resilience of the #renewables supply chain. But needs urgent electricity market reform to make this happen. ⚡️
Looking forward to discuss how we can access materials to sustainably build more #OffshoreWind and keep them in use as long as possible at #FloatingWind22 with a panel on 12 Oct led by Dr Charlotte Stamper. #CircularWind TransFIReHub Civil Engineering Leeds
It has been a fantastic 3 days of knowledge sharing & positivity with DTU Wind and Energy Systems at the International Conference on Sustainable Wind Turbine Blades. Thank you so much to @LeonMishnaevsky & Justine Beauson for arranging the 43 presentations from across all areas of industry and R&D
UK steel demand growing as it builds more low carbon infrastructure, with 5Mt to meet 2030 #offshorewind targets alone. But where will it all come from? Words of Community Union "if we want to go green it is nonsensical to transport steels from the other side of the world".
Thanks to all Renewable Parts Lochgilphead for hosting me last week. True #circulareconomy pioneers and undoubtedly will have a key role to play in wind #decommissioning. Impressive expansion since my last visit with Zero Waste Scotland!
It was super to be back Zero Waste Scotland yesterday at a workshop examining Scotland’s role in the #greensteel revolution. And important to see so many parts of the supply chain represented. Eagerly awaiting the final report! ♻️
So pleased to see momentum building on #CircularEconomy in the wind sector - as SSE Renewables said in their opening “circularity is good for business”.
