An interesting thread. I’ve always felt uneasy about reform/education/self-improvement initiatives legitimising forms of imprisonment that damage people/society. But prison without them is certainly worse for individuals & society. If this is the problem, what is the answer?

You could end this tweet at response. I spent today reviewing an article on young men’s experiences in prison. The thought of any of the young people I know being in a cell is chilling. Prison harms people who harm people. We must find ways to reduce harm that don’t cause harm.
