A major effort to show that analytical decisions often are the main causes for differences in studies. Worrying?

I would say unless the data is so contrasting that differences can be seen just by looking at it, which is rarely the case.

In 1997/98 I spent countless nights alone looking for spiders in Arrabida, Portugal, for my licenciate thesis. Returned many times and from the top of the small mountain the view still stretches far away. Yet the woods now just feel empty, silent. Almost eerie. Hope to be wrong.

Imagine if some of the ancient life frozen for thousands or millions of years are released into the wild, what can happen?

Back to the Azores for the 2nd edition of the Summer School on Island Biogeography. Angra still feels like home for me.

Another 2-day stay inside a cave, this time to shoot a documentary. Unique fauna included.

Wonder what the tourists think when seeing us emerge from inside the cliff with a small rubber boat and helmets on?

We finally have an invertebrate IUCN Red List for Portugal. assessments by V. Branco Carla Rego and myself. Three endemic species assessed as threatened, but lack of knowledge is still the norm.
