A resurrected #ghostpingo with "grow-faster" seedbank stripes (an expt!) that is >40 m long. In <2 yrs it will look like the ponds below as tons of long-lived seeds exposed in the excavation. Most successful ecological restoration known? Tim Holt-Wilson Helene Burningham The Brecks Fen Edge & Rivers Landscape Partnership

Footprints from the mesolithic elegantly preserved in this #ghostpingo trench in the East Anglian Brecks. From the angle & spacing of the footprints we can infer that the individual had a limp likely from a prior Bear attack

Last week, I spent 5 days at the NHM, London, IDing deep sea fish and generally gawping at ichthyological oddities. I must confess, though, that I had an ulterior motive. In this thread I'm going tell you the whole story and show you the single coolest fish I've ever found! 1/

Good news for #crucian carp conservation. A lack of introgression and hence genetic contamination is evident where hybridization occurs onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

Pond no. 10 of #pondweek. A #ghostpond just finished. An incredible centuries old layer of mud buried under the plough soil packed with mollusc remains, pressed willow & Broad-leaved pondweed leaves and soon to germinate seeds of many wetland plants. The pond is coming back!!!
