I’ve said it before and I’ll say it a zillion more times: ChatGPT does *not* summarize the information it scrapes. It *imitates* it, with no regard for accuracy or truth. It is not a database that can be searched. At best it can draft form language for you. #MLASLA23 #medlibs

All "media bias charts" are fundamentally flawed becase all media carries biases baked in from owners, advertisers, and funding models, and charts like these oversimplify a complex information world that answers to myriad stakeholders and influences. #mlasla23

I like this editorial a lot. It gets things right, but I want to comment on 3, which still gives this false impression that the search should be conducted by 2 people. It shouldn't. And don't "consider" collaboration with a librarian -- you NEED one. arthroscopyjournal.org/article/S0749-…

I totally agree with this. People who don’t think they have anything to learn from our public librarian colleagues are extremely shortsighted. I think it’s good to get different perspectives on the field.

There are so many costs to the advice of "move for the job" that are never talked about openly. It's not just money, it's emotional and mental supports too. Safety. Community. And barriers to being promoted within your own library so you have to leave.

As I look fwd to speaking with MIT librarians tmrw! “While the popular history of the internet valorises Silicon Valley coders…many of the original concepts for search emerged from library scientists…” aeon.co/essays/the-197…

WOOOO! just got my first publication acceptance notification for a review I co-authored after a year on the job! which is to say i really enjoy working with the researchers and helping them understand the value of expert searching!

I've had a slew of trans and gender diverse-related searches lately, and would highly advise using a string like ((trans-fem* OR transfem*) NOT (trans-femoral OR transfemoral)) to get the precision on point for transfemmes. It will remove thousands of irrelevant articles!

I'm going to need a **METRIC QUANTITY** of coffee and tasty snacks before I can respond to the methods of this draft review I have sitting in front of me.
