Big heat in June and July compensated for an average August to bring summer 2024 in the Capital Region in as the 2nd warmest on record (records to 1874) just behind summer 2005. Rainfall was lopsided with August wet, but June and July dry.

It was crisp this morning...clear skies with very dry air and light wind meant lots of radiational cooling. But what an afternoon, 60s and low 70s out there right now with just about 100% sunshine.

Although not as chilly as it was Tuesday morning, it was another crisp morning this morning. More cool weather to come at night this week, but each night a little less cool than the previous one.

There may be a bit of a hazy appearance to the sky tomorrow afternoon with a narrow strip of elevated wildfire smoke likely passing through. No impact to the air quality.

10 day local temperature trend. After a quick shot of showers Saturday afternoon and evening and quick shot of cool Sunday, we'll warm up again next week with another extended period of bright dry weather on the way.

We'll get another dry day tomorrow with rain coming in with a fast moving front on Saturday. Timing now looks to be from the early to mid afternoon through the evening on Saturday. Then another extended dry spell through much of it not all of next week.

Fog and low clouds will likely be around in more areas in the morning than we've seen so far this week...but it will lift by mid morning putting us back in sunshine and very pleasant weather conditions. Like today, temps. will warm well into the 70s to around 80.

We did it. Jun-Aug 2024 set a record for the highest global average dew point. It was also a record for the land-only regions. As was the global average apparent temperature.

This week's weather has been nice, mild by day, but cool at night...and it's those nighttime temperatures that has the month running cooler than average so far.
