Long Beach 86 | Mario shaking Michaels hand, possibly 'passing the torch' to his son after his first victory.

2nd generation driver, Michael Andretti, would finally breakthrough with his first ever #indycar victory, on the same track he would have his final victory. Appropriate to defend against Al Unser Jr as well for that maiden win at Long Beach in 1986.

Long Beach 86 | The battle wasn't over yet. Al Jr was one of the deepest on the brakes in #indycar history. Michael had to do everything to stay in front of his budding rival.

Al Unser Jr took the lead into turn 1 on lap 1 at the 1986 Long Beach Grand Prix, but Danny Sullivan would retake the lead on lap 2. Sullivan the defending winner of Long Beach was also the defending #indy500 winner. #indycar
