Good question! DC’s curbside composting pilot does not accept compostable products like utensils today. Hopefully that changes in the future as compostable food serviceware can “capture” extra food waste and we have many composters in the DMV that accept certified compostables!

The only thing that makes me happier than it being fig season is living in a community that can recycle plastic clamshells (Always remove the paper labels, if you can, because paper is a problematic contaminant for plastic packages of all kinds!)

Oh good question… and hats off for taking it over to fix it dc! I wish I had more options to suggest. Alas, we have a real dearth of options for recycling appliances. If made of metal, I would recommend a metal recycling drop-off! Or, curbside trash would be the move.

Hey Aiden! You're welcome. We like cleaning the streets, and we're doing more of it than ever before. When you grow up, you can help us keep the streets clean, too - don't litter, don't dump, and move your car during ASP. Until then, we'll keep your drawing on our fridge!

Recycling double header: ✅ Bringing curbside recyclables to the apartment building dumpster ✅ Bringing pure polyethylene plastic film + bags to the grocery store drop-off

Good question! Right there with you that these should be polyurethane. I’m not familiar with any recycling dropoffs in the DMV/mailback options, unfortunately. They’re a plastic that can be recycled but that we don’t have infrastructure for today! I definitely hope to see more!

Compostables *have* to actually be composted in order for them to turn into… compost. They do *not* turn into compost in landfills. This goes for food waste, paper, compostable plastics - all of the above. Organics that go to landfill break down and generate methane!

Press’n seal is gods gift to us all And the paper box and tube is recyclable! Once you’ve stretched your last perfectly stretchy piece of plastic to preserve half open things/half eaten food, toss the box into your recycling.
