The BNP used to spread rumours about turning up to areas with big Muslim communities. In the end, we'd mobilise in big numbers and clash with the police. Social media misinformation has significantly amplified that risk. Verify things before spreading them.

Last year I made a video in which I reported this prediction from Red Flare: "The UK is fertile ground for fascism and it’s only the fairly open racism of the government that is stopping its growth. If the Tories go out of power, who knows what could happen?"

Seems like police are approaching far-right mobilisations and Stand Up To Racism demos in London this evening in the same way - including by warning local businesses of unrest without specifying why. This is spreading fear in areas that (probably) aren't even far-right targets.

I’m on my way up to Walthamstow, north-east London, to report for Novara Media on what’s expected to be a huge anti-racist mobilisation in response to rumours of a far-right riot.

Coordinated community and police response to a far-right threat at East London Mosque this afternoon, that, thankfully, hasn’t materialised (so far).

Just arrived in Crawley, where there are already a few hundred anti-racists here to oppose a far-right mobilisation… which so seems to consist of this one guy.
