Today, San Francisco Mayor’s installed interim DA said their policy is “a war on fentanyl” and her installed Board of Supervisor said “it is a war on drug addicts.”

We need science, health, and compassion to drive drug policy.

This decision is so important, and yet, we shouldn't need courts to tell us that we can't punish people for sleeping and sheltering themselves when there's literally nowhere else to do that.

We're better than this, America.

SF mayors from Lee to Breed cite numbers of “exits to housing” of which over 50% are comprised of bus tickets out of town. Meanwhile 18% of those currently homeless in San Francisco have been in “permanent supportive housing.” We need real social housing and meaningful support.

The city’s ongoing criminalization of the unhoused and property destruction through the pandemic was cruel abuse. I reviewed hundreds of pages of admin data for an expert declaration in this case. It was worse than I thought. sfchronicle.com/sf/article/S-F… via San Francisco Chronicle

This is the most promising litigation we’ve had in SF. The city’s ongoing criminalization of the unhoused and property destruction through the pandemic was cruel abuse. I reviewed hundreds of pages of admin data for an expert declaration in this case. It was worse than I thought.

The senate just voted 30-3 in support of our bill forgiving parking tickets for people who are unhoused living in their vehicle.

We can’t penalize our way out of poverty.
I’m grateful my colleagues agree.

Atlanta cut homelessness by 40% through housing

Houston cut homelessness by 63% through housing

Finland cut homelessness by 75% through housing

Tokyo cut homelessness by 80% through housing

The solution to homelessness isn’t policing — it’s housing, housing, and more housing

I’ll keep saying this till I’m blue in the face.

Project Roomkey funding is NOT ENDING. The federal reimbursement drops from 100% to 90%.

Cities/counties that are closing Roomkey hotels are choosing to do so — NOT being forced to do so. spectrumnews1.com/ca/la-west/hom…

“Services and shelters” . . . Seeing lots of news media in the past 48 hours covering this with 0 details or questions as to what “services and shelters” are actually being offered. Would love to see some real investigative journalism on this. Please share if you come across it.
