A Celtic coin purse made from a cow femur. Filled with gold coins made by the Ambiani tribe (Northern France), they date to the Gallic Wars and were buried in East Anglia, England - possibly by Celts fleeing Julius Caesar. 🏛️Lynn Museum #Celts #History #Roman #Britain #France

Extraordinary coin find in Sweden! Two Roman coins, one of Antoninus Pius, the other from Trajan's reign, have been found on the extremely remote and uninhabited island of Gotska Sandön all the way up in the middle of the Baltic Sea. 😵‍💫🪙 The Partial Historians🏺 svt.se/nyheter/lokalt…

Roman coin hoards, from the 'Coinage in the Roman Empire' project — 'hoards containing coinage in use in the Roman Empire between 30 B.C. and A.D. 400.' Some stimulating discussions in view ... For instance, a heavy concentration in southern India, whereas Ireland has eight?

Another interesting question (not my own) is to ask: if part of being Roman (whatever that is) is a Roman material culture, then would you be able to tell where the empire ended by looking at a map of coin finds alone?

One of the orange dots in south India represents this hoard. Was found during construction of HAL airport. Wonder where they are now.
