NIMBYism usually boils down to density free-riding—wanting to live close to desirable amenities that are sustained by population density, but not wanting any of that density to be right next to you.

Happy Mother's Day to all of the amazing urbanist advocates who care for their families and their communities💚 Thanks for your work year round to make our cities more liveable, our housing more abundant and transportation safer. We're lucky to have you all!

A cyclist just got hit by a truck right outside Torchy’s on S Congress (about two blocks from where I live). Luckily it seems like they’re ok. How long will we tolerate this stroad and the insanity it induces in drivers before we make this place safe for people outside of a car?

Just want to underscore the level of heroism underway here: Sen. Tammy Duckworth has been working to evacuate Dr. Adam Hamawy (who saved her life after her helicopter crash) from the hospital the IDF is besieging and bombing. But he and his colleagues have insisted they not leave

Today is the last day to donate to Austin City Council candidates before the next reporting deadline. After this, the media will report on who raised how much and from how many people. Help the candidates you care about! Donate to Adam Powell secure.actblue.com/donate/adamfor…

The staff draft of the single-stair apartment ordinance directed by #atxcouncil is a poison pill designed to prevent it from ever getting built, and is justified by lazy, absurd logic. A failure of duty at best, bordering on insubordination. An embarrassing day for City staff.

Ever wondered why you don't see buildings like this in Austin? One reason is our building code doesn't allow "single-stair" buildings, forcing builders into massive, inefficient designs. Staff is currently working to change this, but we need 5 big amendments to make it work 🏤 1/

Not a favorite spot, but I'm always baffled how there's a literal scrap yard one block away from E 5th (Austin Metal & Iron).

Incredible article highlighting car-free and car-light Austinites!!!🚌🚲🚄 Traveling without a car is practical in many parts of the city - we should make it an option for more Austinites! So grateful to Chelsey for writing this and all the folks who shared their story. 🙂
