Each Sunday, volunteers have been running FREE soccer & cricket practices & games at Burnt Mills ES, providing jerseys, shoes, even SAT books and today, backpacks! Multiple languages are being spoken, kids are brimming w/ enthusiasm! Thank you to Arif Wali & all the volunteers!

Happy first day of school, Montgomery County! Great to start my morning with the staff and students of Pine Crest ES, alongside our new Superintendent Thomas Taylor, Rich Madaleno from the office of County Exec Marc Elrich, and Moco BOE member Shebra Evans!

As a Councilmember in the County where Novavax is headquartered (and a Novavax recipient myself), I’ve seen the concerns about FDA approval. I reached out to Novavax, who confirmed to me that they are in close, ongoing contact with the FDA and expect to have this done very soon.

Wonderful to visit my middle school alma mater Eastern MS and pop into a few classrooms for a quick 👋 with Superintendent Thomas Taylor, Councilmember Will Jawando, Councilmember Kate Stewart (she/her), and Board of Ed member Julie Yang! Thank you to Ms. Short, EMS principal, for hosting us!

Ended MCPS Day 1 at my alma mater Montgomery Blair High School (yes I’m in one of those class photos behind us!). Great to see so many friends: student interns, former teachers, a former classmate who became a teacher, & counselor Ms. Russell, who I taught w/ at Odessa Shannon (then Lee MS)!

Had a great time with friends, neighbors, and colleagues at Montgomery County’s Ethiopian Day! There was a huge crowd out celebrating Ethiopian culture and our large Ethiopian community, which contributes so much to the fabric of our county. Our diversity is truly our strength!

New school construction creates both opportunities & challenges. Northwood HS & JoAnn Leleck ES are both at other sites (Woodward HS, Fairland center) as construction proceeds. Great to tour with Thomas Taylor & Moco BOE’s Lynne Harris (she/her/hers) Praneel Suvarna to see it firsthand!
