I didn't want to jinx it on X Twitter here yesterday, but 15-Aug-2024 was was first day in full, first train to last, since before the closure of Parkdale station, no bus replacement activity in the metro network of any kind. No shuttle buses, no suspensions, nothing.

🚇🎉Sydney's new Metro line opens on Monday with a train every 4-10 minutes at all times.👍 Will Melbourne's Metro tunnel match this when it opens next year? Melbourne is a big city now - we need frequent trains all day every day on all lines.⌚️🚉 abc.net.au/news/2024-08-1…

Some comments here are relevant to our SmartBus orbitals. Getting weekends up to frequent service, reducing network overlaps and splitting sections to improve punctuality and service/patronage fit should be next on the agenda.

How does 12km of new track, largely on an existing rail alignment, with just 2 new stations, cost basically the same as Metro Tunnel does? How on earth can $12 billion airport rail be justified?

A tick for 612, 546 & 800. The more the merrier for sunday services, however several routes in established suburbs with legacy bus networks need attention too. Wonder what services should be next? Probably more services around Dandenong or east-west routes in the densifying north

Insane that citybound trains still dwell at chatham for an extra whole minute because they didnt redo the timetable after merging surrey hills and mont albert

Some worthwhile watching on the issues around battery electric buses. Running them on an existing unreformed infrequent 5 or 6 day a week network doesn't generate the mode shift needed, but that's been our approach here in Melbourne.

Build with frequency and they will come. Lessons for our Metro Tunnel , which needs to run a core 5 minute frequency 7 days to justify its capital investment and permit tram network reform. #springst

THIS IS VERY GOOD. The horrible confusing Route 380 bus loop around Ringwood and Croydon will soon be split into two simpler routes (668 / 669) according to this October 2024 local area map. ptv.vic.gov.au/assets/PTV-def…

[Blog] Chadstone is the only designated middle suburban housing growth area without trains or trams. Other schemes have been proposed but the only commitment is to investigate them. Here's a quick way to deliver faster PT to this key centre. melbourneontransit.blogspot.com/2024/09/un-184… #springst

Today's Herald Sun has a feature on (Labor) 'Losing the West'. One thing mentioned is the 90 min / 15 km trip from Sunshine to Melbourne Airport. Travel time would be a half or less if there was a direct bus between the two. More: melbourneontransit.blogspot.com/2019/08/buildi… #springst
