There are no easy answers when it comes to sharing potentially very bad news via the #PatientPortal, but overall, I firmly believe the benefits of full transparency outweigh the disadvantages of withholding data and results. buff.ly/3A7cVuF

Few would be surprised by findings from Epic Research that showed that barcode med admin was higher on a mobile device than tethered to a computer. Still, the med/surg and ICU numbers are all terrific using either method. I'm impressed, peeps! #BCMA buff.ly/4ckkFqU

#PatientPortals can boost #engagement, improve access to health information, and enhance communication between patients and physicians. However, trust in healthcare is waning. What can be done to help? Read my latest blog post to get some ideas! ⌨️🏥 nordicglobal.com/blog/transpare…

Steps in the right direction! I like the specific example at the beginning of this journal article: If the patient denies "edema," this is not the same as the patient denying "leg swelling." I might buy edema = swelling, but no location from the input. buff.ly/4dfEwse

I can't resist any article with the words "Steal this idea" in the title. In this case, it's how Atrium Health leveraged its "systemness" to have patients go to the OR at the mother ship and recover in their local hospital. Gotta get the details right. buff.ly/4dIfjqt

I think it's terrific that we'll hopefully be screening more folks for cancer and screening them at younger ages. This is clearly going to put more work on primary care teams. I hope this a team approach and not another to-do for only physicians. buff.ly/4ciA5M1

Five commonsense recommendations regarding #AI oversight from Raj Ratwani, PhD, David Classen, and Christopher A. Longhurst, MD. We should learn the lessons from the #HIT certification process. Key is shared responsibility among users, devs, and regulators. buff.ly/4dIw7xh

De-implementatin in general, or #deprescribing more specifically, needs more attention from clinicians. We sort of figured out how to start things; we haven't figured out how to stop things. This is a growing concern. #LessIsMore #HumanCenteredDesign buff.ly/470eeIx

The good news from the AMA is that physician #burnout is down a bit. The bad news is that #PajamaTime hasn't budged. The solutions are clear: team-based care, reduce unnecessary documentation, leverage #AI where it makes sense. #LetsGo buff.ly/3YJPNgi

It's that time of year again -- Epic #UGM2024. I can't wait to learn what's new, what's coming, and what the leading healthcare systems have been doing to improve pt quality and decrease clinician burnout. I'll see everyone there on Monday. (I'll be the dude with the glasses!)

When I first read that an #AI could reliably identify pediatric myopia, strabismus, and ptosis, I thought: "They're coming for you, ophtho peeps!" But in reality, this just means more work for eye doctors as they'll be able to intervene earlier. #Yay buff.ly/46MSO15

To surgeons who want to join in on the #ClinicalInformatics fun, I have one thing to say: "Gabba gabba, we accept you, we accept you, one of us!" I'm sure AMIA agrees with me, at least in spirit! CT Lin buff.ly/3YKwEdR

While it makes sense given Epic's size, still amazing to contemplate: researchers queried the #Cosmos database and found ~100,000 patients in the US with #DownSyndrome. That's half of the expected US population of Down patients, all in one database. #wow buff.ly/3WW3FBz

Just turning on functionality won't cut it for Epic's Gold Star program; health systems will soon need to show adoption and impact. Here are some excellent strategic steps to get you from here to there! buff.ly/3T72VYW

Women who have a false positive screening #mammogram are less likely to return for more screening. Whether they consider it a waste of time or are fearful the next time will be a true positive, we should use #BehavioralScience and #design to do better! buff.ly/3APR7El

A great reminder that #EHR satisfaction is inversely correlated with #ClinicianBurnout. And #usability plays a huge role in clinicians' satisfaction with their technology. So get with the program and ensure your EHRs are designed well. #HumanCenteredDesign buff.ly/4d3FCX7
