A Tiger Swallowtail butterfly on Joe Pye weed flowers. I love the Monarch Butterfly, but these ones, the many kinds of Swallowtails, are really my favorites that I see in the summer.

The prompt for #SciArtSeptember Day 2 was “Weeping.” One definition of weeping is “mourning” so I thought of the Mourning Doves (Zenaida macroura) that used to call “mournfully” to each other in the “weeping” willows in our yard. Liz Butler

For #SciArtSeptember Day 3 prompt of “Grim” I used the dictionary definition of “Fierce in disposition or action” and thought immediately of wolves. In Norse mythology, Geri and Freki are two wolves which accompanied the god Odin and were the providers of his meat. Liz Butler

Today in nature...The milkweed tiger moth or milkweed tussock moth (Euchaetes egle). It's commonly found feeding in the late summer on milkweeds and dogbane.
