I think you may be overlooking the substantial evidence to the contrary.

This is a fascinating thread for sociologists of science. Yes, there is genius and wisdom and insight. There is also collegiality, serendipity, cajoling of graduate students, collaboration, and decades of work. Science is a very human endeavor.
