We're going to have far less plums this season after a fully laden branch broke off last year, but here's the first few picked today. Plus a jar of medlar chutney which is rather yummy, using up a couple of pounds of fruit lurking in the bottom of the freezer. Paul Couchman - Regency Cook

Currently transcribing the diaries of Constance Radcliffe Cooke. In 1894 she was at school in Switzerland & #OTD she walked from Comballaz to Pierre du Moelle. A casual check shows it was nearly 3 hours there & back, but it looks like it was worth it!

Today we had a walk round part of the #Rotherwas estate exploring the history of the munitions factory. There's more opportunities to join us later in the year & we hold monthly meetings. Find out more: rotherwas.com

I was thrilled to buy two letters written by Charles Radcliffe Cooke online, including one in which he extolls Constance's abilities - she did indeed work using her language, shorthand & typing skills, but then of course became a #WSPU #Suffragette!

.#OTD 1931 The Kington Times reported on Katharine Radcliffe Cooke's death, wife of the late Charles Radcliffe Cooke & Constance's step-mother. They didn't get on, Katharine had been governess to the children before their mother died then Charles & Katharine married. (The British Newspaper Archive)

The entrance to College Cloisters Hereford Cathedral has a secret: under the hatch in the wooden seat is an ancient backgammon "board" scratched in the stonework. It was starting to get rather worn & an elegant solution to protect it & the wall has been devised by the Head of Estates.

A visit to #Bromyard today to see the exhibition by my extremely talented friend Jane Tudge at the Chapel Gallery & a lovely wander along the streets for the Bromyard Art Walk. The exhibition & local art is on display all week.

1913 #OTD an article advertised a #Hereford #WSPU meeting in the #Suffragette newspaper. Unfortunately the invitation cards had a rather fundamental typo, but the resourceful Mrs Davis Hereford Cathedral had a simple solution!
