A great talk by U-M Pharmacy's Dr. Steven Erickson, PharmD this morning at the virtual Disability Advocacy Coalition in Medicine conference! He covered a lot of ground including the need for increased #MedEd training on #Disability awareness. A great call to action!
Just wrapped up a valuable panel and collaboration between @DAC_med and The DocsWithDisabilities Initiative about navigating disability in education and patient care!! Content from this discussion will be available in an upcoming The DocsWithDisabilities Initiative podcast. Next up, research and abstract hour!
Thank you to Diana Cejas, MD, MPH for a wonderful talk shedding light on the barriers to and differences in care experienced by adolescents and youth with disabilities. We came away with some useful tools on how to promote an anti-ableist, neurodiversity affirming practice.
Thank you to our panelists Elizabeth J. Stigler, Ph.D. (she/her) and Kenneth Jennings and our moderator Cris Mix from Shirley Ryan AbilityLab for a great discussion of how disability intersects with multiple identities in and outside of healthcare.
Congrats to our friends at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab and Northwestern Medicine Sam Schroth, Trisha Kaundinya, MD, MPH and Allison Kessler, MD for presenting their work on a MS1 Learning Module about #DisabilityInMedicine. Great poster, Great project, by GREAT people! 👏 #DisabilityInMedicine #MedEd #AAMC23
Creating this organization from the ground up with Trisha Kaundinya, MD, MPH has been one of the most meaningful things I've ever done. As we wrap up our time in UME, we're looking for health graduate students to join the National Board so Disability Advocacy Coalition in Medicine's mission can keep moving forward 💛
