- US and Ukrainian interests will diverge eventually, probably re: Crimea.
- A reasonable deal probably better than stalemate
- US is an active contributor & should have a say in how the war ends.

This is not a great way to message a Republican Party that even prior to the Ukraine War was already very skeptical of foreign aid.

There has been a slow drip of stories like this since the late summer where it appears that the Biden Admin is trying to put distance between itself and the Ukrainian government (ex: Dugina assassination). The problem is their previous rhetoric on Ukraine makes it hard to do that

European aid to Ukraine has been paltry even though the conflict's in their backyard.

Europe should stop buck-passing & start taking their security seriously instead of treating a valid U.S. debate like the end-times.

This is a great piece by Michael Brendan Dougherty. He effectively makes the case that there isn't a deep well of support for unconditional aid to Ukraine among the American public, despite claims to contrary from the foreign policy blob and some in the foreign policy press.
