No other county has felt California’s wildfire crisis like Lake County. My heart goes out to everyone affected by the #BoylesFire. We'll have more updates to this story as the day goes on: kqed.org/science/199421…

A text book example of how wind-driven embers advance a #wildfire. The lesson here is: Don't fixate on the fire itself; pay attention to the wind. If it's blowing toward you, embers are, too, and you better get the heck out of there.

After seeing some well-meaning but misinformed popular tweets over the last couple days about how southern California needs to better manage its land to prevent wildfire, I was all set to chaparral-splain, but Naomi Fraga, PhD is far more qualified than I to do that, so here -- 🌿🔥🧵

You'd think we'd be better at recovering from wildfires by now. Weeks after the #ParkFire took their homes, survivors still have few answers about how to recover. For the larger percentage of survivors who are uninsured, the problem is dire. Pls read: kqed.org/science/199433…

Things that surprised me while reporting this: -Recovery isn't uniform. Each fire is unique, depending on who takes charge. -Therefore local gov't can not use past fires as a template. -Ironically, the bigger the damage the better for survivors.

Great article from ⁦Danielle Venton⁩ on the challenges facing residents of Cohasset who lost homes in the Park Fire. Interesting (worrying) that so many seem to be uninsured. kqed.org/science/199433…
