Check out this thread about our new paper that just came out in Fluids_MDPI . My favorite part is the really cool simulation imagery by Alexander Hoover 🏳️‍🌈 using really interesting approach to simulating muscle activation!

This sim shows that alternating tension (muscle activation) in the larvacean tail can drive the tail motion observed with #DeepPIV. Why do we care? This ingenious soft-tissue pump is what powers #snotpalaces!!

We worked hard last night to revive a housing filled with electronics that flooded at 2000 m the other day… now we are filled with hope for more interesting discoveries aboard R/V Falkor using the ROV Subastian and our suite of highly specialized imaging tools.

… and the work paid off! We are offshore and documenting deep sea creatures in 3D with #DeepPIV! See thread below for results from an animal we spotted earlier today; the ROV hasn’t come up to the surface yet but we already have the data!
