From local residents in Ellesmere Port: "We feel that we are being used as pawns by the organisations (including local government) who know they need to be seen to be doing better rather than actually doing better". We need place-based, just transitions to #NetZero Industrial Decarbonisation Research & Innovation
CCS is not suitable for all types of fossil fuel emissions, it’s impractical for a wide range of them. An important analysis by Energy Transitions Commission on why achieving net-zero will require drastic emission reductions - even if we manage to deploy large-scale CCS. energy-transitions.org/bitesize/carbo…
Ahead of COP28, the German Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt) has published its position on CCS in the global climate debate. In the past, the UBA has been very critical of CCS, now it communicates a framing of "indispensable but no panacea" umweltbundesamt.de/sites/default/…
The European Parliament has finalised its position on the certification framework (formerly CRC-F) europarl.europa.eu/news/en/press-… The position does a good job of separating reduction/removal and is more explicit that this is a tool at the interface of climate and agricultural policy.

#SPDbpt
Interesting to see high public support for a shift towards local energy systems. This evidence does not fit with policy narratives (like NIMBYism) that assume all everybody wants is an energy system that is 'out of sight, out of mind'. Policy makers take note! ExeterEnergy
