I found Hypocreopsis rhododendri - Hazel Gloves in woods. A very rare fungus. Red Data List species, temperate rainforest indicator. Go me!

Is it possible to look semi-normal when speaking? Not in my experience! 🙃

Lovely to see you all Marj. See you on Friday! 🌿

Sea Mouse-ear (Cerastium diffusum) 💚

Only two prior records from this site, both from doyens of Cornish botany - Colin French in 2011 and Len Margetts in 1963. Presumably not recorded much because of its tiny size rather than actual scarcity.

Quite surprised to find a few spikes of Orobanche (presumed to be O. minor subsp. maritima) emerging today. Far earlier than I’ve found them before.

And LOOK at that deep purple! 💜

The world is waking up with .

I walked in an ancient wood tonight where Wood Anemone, Wood Sorrel, Barren Strawberry and Opposite-leaved Golden Saxifrage are all beginning to flower. A delicate prelude to the avalanche of Bluebells to come…

I check this ditch every year and this is the earliest flowering Cuckoo Flower I can recall.

Cuckoo Flower (Cardamine pratensis) is named as they bloom when the cuckoos arrive. Though if any arrived in this weather I imagine they’d just turn around again!

What a glorious fungal splodge! Guy said that someone described Hazel Gloves as like Donald Trump’s ‘tiny orange hands’ and hopefully you will not be able to get that image out of your head.

For several years on St David’s Day I’ve visited this patch of wild-ish daffodils on an old hedge-bank. Today I found them slightly tattered by last night’s storm, but bathed in glistening light. Springing!

Three-cornered Leek (Allium triquetrum) from St Mawes looking at St Anthony Head. St Anthony’s lighthouse is culturally significant for any 80s kids as the home of the Fraggles, Fraggle Rock.

🎶 Dance your cares away, worries for another day 🎶

White-ramping Fumitory (Fumaria capreolata) in a posh St Mawes flowerbed today. Was told I was looking ‘a bit dodgy’ while trying to surreptitiously take these photos… 🤦‍♂️
