You know our healthcare system is broken when you meet a patient in the emergency room and their first question is, “Can you make sure my condition is coded correctly?” 😟 The upcoding shenanigans by companies like UnitedHealthcare really need to stop. See here: statnews.com/2024/07/25/vid…

Driving the day: Democrats announce $6B savings from initial Medicare drug price negotiations. Chiquita Brooks-LaSure: “We estimate that Medicare enrollees will save $1.5 billion when the new prices go into effect in 2026.” More from me + Rachel Roubein. washingtonpost.com/health/2024/08…

4 days after my dad had a heart attack in 2019, we received medical bills totaling over $126,000. He had earned about $30K that year. My dad said to me, “If the heart attack did not kill me, this will.” Medical debt needs to GO.

Disrespect doesn’t just make people feel bad. It leads them to perform worse. Evidence from medical teams: Even a single insult decreases the quality of diagnoses and procedures. Rudeness disrupts focus and undermines collaboration. Civility is not optional. It’s vital.

I didn’t speak English when I started 1st grade in the US. By the end of the year they wanted me to skip a year and go straight to 3rd grade. I was valedictorian of my high school, got a full scholarship for college, and have an MD and PhD from Stanford. He is the poison, not us

Senior doctor: "By the way, the patient is a big donor." Sir, I don't care if the patient is a big donor, a little donor, or owes the hospital money they can't pay. Every one of my patients receives the same high-quality care, no matter what their bank account shows.
