Not giving your all on something you care deeply about can be a way of copping out. It gives you an excuse if things don't go how you want them to. Giving your all, leaving every bit out there, exposes you. It makes you vulnerable. But that's the point. It gives texture to life.

One: Prioritize getting as much sleep as you can.
Two: Don’t freak out if you can't get sleep for whatever reason.
Three: Don’t let #2 be permission for forgetting about #1.

This applies to so much: thegrowtheq.com/when-good-enou…

Bill Walton in 2021: “The last lesson of life that John Wooden taught us was the measurement of success, which he described -- and now I comprehend and buy into -- is success is the peace of mind that comes with the self-satisfaction of knowing that you've done your best.'

RIP Bill Walton, who 14 years ago spoke about Boris Diaw (career 8.4 ppg/4.4 rebs/3.5 ast) with more beauty and reverence than anyone has ever spoken about another person.

“When I think of Boris Diaw, I think of Beethoven and the age of the romantics.”

Because depression is fucking awful and it can bring about a pain like none other.

If you are suffering please call 988 to speak with someone at the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

It may feel impossible at this moment but it can get better.

Technology is a phenomenal tool. But if it flattens the experience of creating and connecting and learning and growing, then it will leave us apathetic, numbed out, and depressed, like characters in the book Brave New World or the Disney movie Wall-E. thegrowtheq.com/doing-real-thi…

Two ways to reach top of mountain:

1) Constantly thinking, worrying, and dreaming about reaching the peak.
2) Being where you are and enjoying the path and all the life alongside the mountain.

Both climbers may make it to top. But their journeys have very different textures.

So many “influencers” and “optimizers” and “wellness” and “happiness” gurus don’t have partners or kids. Yes, strive to be healthy and excellent and all that, but sometimes the key to adult life—especially if you’ve got kids—is that you’ve just got to order a pizza and move on.

Follow the 48-hour rule. After a big achievement or a tough failure, give yourself 48 hours to celebrate success or grieve defeat, but then get back to work. Doing the work has a special way of putting both success and failure in their respective places. The work doesn't change.

Three essential equations for human psychology:

1. Happiness = Reality – Expectations

2. Stress + Rest = Growth

3. Pain x Resistance = Suffering

One of the greatest risks to performance, happiness, and fulfillment is alienation, or the remove we feel from our lives.

Excellence requires intimacy.
