If credit demand is the name of the game, the game is really really weak.
Here is what China Beige Book showed back in Q1, many weeks before low TSF & cratering M1 hit the headlines.
While monetary stimulus again failed to lift corporate borrowing, the news wasn't any better on the fiscal side for the big stimulus bulls. China Beige Book's proprietary Fiscal Activity Index fell for a third consecutive month in April.

What did China Beige Book proprietary inflation gauges reveal in Apr?
'CBB’s input cost, sales price, and wage rate indices all slowed versus March. But on-year comparisons showed prices accelerating compared to last April, which may yield reassuring official inflation measures.'
No surprises here for China Beige Book clients. As we wrote in our April data release note:
'Corporate borrowing fell, despite loan rejections plummeting and interest rates falling. Beijing is trying to encourage borrowing to at least hold steady, and it’s not working.'
