The great pitman painter was born in Witton Park, County Durham, #OnThisDay in 1926.
He created this magnificent oil painting of The Big Meeting in 1976.

#OnThisDay 1984. Bob Clay, the Labour MP for Sunderland North, was one of 16 people arrested on the picket line.
Clay had seen a man being beaten up by the police and after approaching the police he was arrested for obstruction.
