A few elusive High Browns and Dark Greens on Aish Tor yesterday and today. Hopefully numbers will rise. BC Devon Branch Butterfly Conservation 🦋 Big, beautiful, brilliant and bombing around!
My favourite butterfly in one of my favourite places, Hisley wood. Quite a few White Admirals on the wing. So elegant and magical. Bottom right was so close to my favourite ever shot but I missed! Butterfly Conservation 🦋 BC Devon Branch
My first evening purple hairstreak of the year on the way home from work. Hopefully won't be long until more are around and they are putting on a display BC Devon Branch Butterfly Conservation 🦋
A handful of white admirals seen today even on a grey day. I like this view as it shows their furry backs. BC Devon Branch Butterfly Conservation 🦋
Numbers of white admirals seen dropped to 2 yesterday in the wind after Fridays heavy rain. Hoping numbers increase again. This one was looking a bit battered Butterfly Conservation 🦋 BC Devon Branch
High Brown Fritillary numbers have been low all season. Only a handful seen at 3 sites today on Dartmoor. Butterfly Conservation 🦋 BC Devon Branch
The most confiding Brimstone I've ever seen. This one was only a few cms away for quite a while. BC Devon Branch Butterfly Conservation 🦋
Only 3 purple hairstreaks on the oaks this evening. Hoping for many more in the next week. BC Devon Branch Butterfly Conservation 🦋
A good purple hairstreak day. Numbers increasing. 10 in the afternoon and another 30 early evening. One tree peaked at 16. A bit of a relief. Last chance I'll get to see them chasing each other about this year. Butterfly Conservation 🦋 BC Devon Branch
A few more purple hairstreak pics. These ones showing the array of colours dependant on the angle they pose. These ones were sunbathing in the early evening ready to fight for the best positions Butterfly Conservation 🦋 BC Devon Branch
My first ever Apollo, Clouded Apollo and Titania's fritillaries today along with at least 20 other species 1800m up in the amazing alpine meadows of the Mercantour. Mind blowing place. Is this purple edged copper Dr Marcus Rhodes or anyone else?
The beautiful delicate wood white on the wing at Meeth Quarry Devon Wildlife Trust BC Devon Branch Butterfly Conservation 🦋 . A handful seen.
Wow, I am genuinely surprised that Dartmoor was the third-worst National Park in England and Wales for sewage discharges in 2022. And not much behind Lakes and Eryri ... both of which are bigger. New campaign by Campaign for National Parks ... link below
