Wrote an obit on Uma Ramanan and her remarkable partnership with Ilaiyaraaja. She brought extra dignity to those songs. And there were those duets with Yesudas that will stand the test of time.

Colonization was and is not about whiteness. It was and is about the two religions - Christianity and Islam - with existential mandates to conquer, convert, and eradicate. “Whiteness” (which is constructed and reconstructed out of convenience) was and is a weapon and a camouflage…

Under the Biden administration, there’s been a concerted industrial scale effort to spread disinformation in India and across the world about India. It has been done with the intent of inciting violence, weaponizing elements in the diaspora, effecting political change in India,…

Tucker Carlson Beyond contempt and bigotry, Tucker has no idea what he is taking about.

“Paganism,” as described by most Evangelical supremacists, is comparable to the notion of “Kufr” and “Kafir” of the Islamic supremacists.

As for the take on “RvW,” here is my nuanced take on the topic…

Soon after the law came into being USCIRF was formed. Initially all the USCIRF Commissioners were Evangelical Christians. But after Felice D. Gaer, a Jewish Human Rights advocate joined the panel as a Commissioner, they widened their scope. 4/5

USCIRF was formed in 1998. But prior to that in 1996, Hudson Institute's Nina Shea, director of the Center for Religious Freedom organised a summit of National Association of Evangelicals, a group that represented 42,000 Evangelical Churches. 2/5

USCIRF is a group formed by Christians, for Christians. Its sole purpose is to make Christian persecution central to US foreign policy. Since its inception most of their Commissioners were Evangelical Christians but now they have Islamists or Soros-funded ultra-radical leftists.

This is not meant to be a doomer post, but I just don't see a future where it really returns to its heyday. I can see people migrate away from software for a bit before coming back to it in the next boom cycle.

I don't have any good answers, and many people disagree!

Startups often dislike hiring new grads because the cost to train them and get them up to speed (unless it's in something new grads know more about, like AI) is quite high.

Colleges have such high %age of CS majors who are NOT finding jobs today.

It's not there yet, but AI is also slowly and steadily eating away at jobs humans used to do. LLMs will only write more code over time.

BigTech fueled a lot of the hiring with their consistent 20% YoY growth but they realize revenue doesn't come for free anymore.
