Comparison of two different billboard resolutions. Left sample runs at roughly 40fps, whilst the right one runs at 70fps (both at 1440p on a mobile 1050). Many optimizations to be done, like custom compute occlusion and shader optimizations.

GPU Instanced billboard rendering in Unity with HDRP. Billboards support fake lighting. Implemented a capture tool that creates a fake camera that captures albedo and normal information for 1 frame during init from the GBuffer to use in automatic billboard generation.

Got persistent global edits that are applied to ALL LODs. Use a segmentation system where 512 chunks are saved in a segment with a bit index for each chunk stating if it has been modified or not. This then gets sent to the Job system to 'apply' the modifications onto new chunks.

Alright time to make a new game engine in Rust again.
One of the major issues that I must fix is prototyping speed (compilation time, iteration time). So I'll probably need to rewrite some (or even completely) remove my custom internal crates for ones with widespread support.

I made my own engine for Minecraft.

Implementing the rest of the game is a much bigger time investment than making the engine.

There is no middleware for innovation.
