During my last weekend in Mumbai, I biked over to Wadala’s 100+ acres of environmentally sensitive salt pans.

It’s still possible to see the cultivation of salt, a mineral deeply intertwined with Mumbai’s economic & political history.

Another jaipurlitfest in the books — with some of my favorite sessions covering modern Indian fashion with Tarun Tahiliani, the ongoing Israel / Palestine conflict, and Virginia Woolf — and capped off with a dazzling night of conversations and connections at City Palace.

'Cinema has always imbibed the times we live in; it absorbs like a sponge.'

Touche, Karan Johar — who has written, directed, and produced some of the most iconic Bollywood films of the last quarter century. A pleasure to hear his insightful (and comedic) takes on art and cinema!

Eight straight wins for India — crushing South Africa and tying their all-time record for consecutive wins in an ODI World Cup.

Enjoyed my small role in cheering them on at Eden Gardens last night!

An unforgettable weekend of spelunking. (Yes, I've been waiting to use that word since reading Tom Sawyer in 7th grade).

Some highlights from central Maharashtra at the UNESCO-recognized Ajanta and Ellora Caves, dating from as far back as the 2nd century BC:

Mumbai's art scene is in full swing!

Checked out two new exhibits, each playing with our perception of daily objects:

At the shiny NMACC, a hyperreal universe from Italy-based TOILETPAPER contrasted a reverence for the oft-overlooked waiting in the bylanes of South Mumbai.

In a renovated Brooklyn warehouse, Mira Nair’s Monsoon Wedding came alive in the form of a musical.

The show's theme of love transcending borders took on a new significance as the spirit of Delhi weddings met a multicultural New York crowd.

Woke up at dawn on Sunday morning to catch the final days of so-called 'flamingo season,' the period between November and monsoons during which 130,000 migratory flamingos descend on Mumbai's mangroves and paint the eastern coastline pink.

Finally hopped over to the brand new Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre for The Sound of Music's opening weekend.

Too late to spot Gigi Hadid, but dare I say the 2,000-seat theater is even more stunning in real life?!
