If the world keeps punishing Africa for the discovery of #Omicron and 'Global Health Scientists' keep taking the data, who will share early data again? Just saying thanks and keep hoarding of vaccine, antiviral, diagnostics, PPEs, funding, etc - Thread on unfair practices 1/4

Arguably the laziest and most damaging cognitive error of the pandemic is not appreciating that lagged outcomes like deaths don’t reflect current threat in a rising epidemic. Remember: first UK COVID case was identified on 31 Jan 2020 - first death was reported on 5 Mar.

Brilliant ⁦Mia Malan⁩ “The way in which people from Western countries are used to treating people from Africa and other developing countries is really atrocious. It’s a lot of pretending that we’re partners, equal partners, but we’re not.” vox.com/coronavirus-co…

Reflecting on SA experience with Omricon thus far in Gauteng - the epicentre in SA. 1. Rate of increase per capita much quicker than any of previous three waves. Strongly suggestive of more transmissible than even delta. 2. Positivity rate 30-40% in some settings.

I don't know who needs to here this, but if a student comes to you and says they are struggling with their mental health, just believe them. It's not your job to try and be a shitty Sherlock Holmes and try and figure out if they are "faking it". Just stop it. #AcademicChatter

Latest data from MBRRACE UK UKOSS BPSU showing worsening outcomes from covid-19 amongst pregnant women and their babies. This underpins new JCVI recommendation that pregnant women are considered an at risk group. Vaccination strongly protective against severe disease.

After much scepticism of SA data, indicative of “unless we say so”, appears that scientists and Governments from high income countries have come around that Omicron causes less severe illness, despite being the most antibody evasive variant. Experience seems to be tracking SA.

South Africa decreases restrictions in spite of #Omicron dominating all of the infections. This action is puzzling to the world. Here are a few thoughts on why the government in SA may be correct by acting in this way... Tweets 1/8

I have a question for non-autistic people, especially neurotypical professionals: Why do you want autistic people to be just like you?

Heini Natri (@heinimnatri) 's Twitter Profile Photo

If the DSM description and diagnostic criteria for #autism were rewritten based on the intrinsic view of #ActuallyAutistic people, more unidentified autistic people would recognize themselves, resulting in better support for all autistics. Pass it on.
