Good for you! And I agree. First used in 1513, by your namesake, John Irland, the theologian as you'd know! Also often attributed to a later date (1549), to Robert Crawlwey. Disappears and reemerges in the NYT only in 1913 in a letter by a reader arguing for wider adoption.
