Shook is the real deal. Amar Wala and a terrific cast made a smart, funny and moving character piece about himself, about us, about Scarborough. #tiff24

Sudan, Remember Us is a really good on-the-ground documentary, not an "explainer" doc. Set in Khartoum in 2019 during the civilian revolution and 2021 when the military (re)took power in a coup. Beautiful scenes of revolutionary poetry being spoken in streets. #TIFF24

Just saw Shook at #TIFF24. It's pretty good, very Scarborough and Toronto. Dealing with dating/love in Toronto, family and health issues, specifically Parkinson's, and more than anything the struggles with the self.

CityNews took down this article. The link now directs to the "local" category. CityNews Toronto, why did you take it down? Your policy states "We will not unpublish a story or remove names" unless the story was "flawed and indefensible." toronto.citynews.ca/news-policy/

This absurd article for CityNews Toronto has now disappeared if you click on it. Why is that? Is it because you realized that’s not how you frame vigilante groups on a university campus?

"All these fuckin cinephiles on my streets. Go watch it on Netflix like a regular person." - overheard on John Street outside TIFF

While introducing Happyend, director Neo Sora called out TIFF sponsor RBC today for its investments in fossil fuels and surveillance and arms companies such as Lockheed Martin, Raytheon and Palantir. Makes connections to the film and also Gaza.

New from me: The latest fatal 'wellness check,' this time in Elsipogtog FN, raises questions about what steps authorities have taken to rein in the deadly use of force, four years after police in NB fatally shot two Indigenous people. nbmediacoop.org/2024/09/10/fat…

Before today's screening of Bliss, a film made with government of Israel support and therefore a BDS/PACBI target, a few people opposed to it being shown at #TIFF24 went onstage. They held banners, spoke to the audience and then left to join the demo outside TIFF.

Dave Gray-Donald (@dgrdon) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Odd this article doesn't mention the largest banner held up on stage said "Jews Say No to Genocide," and instead only quotes the director saying people "pulled out cloth sheets from under their clothes with all kinds of slogans written on them."

"We have been made aware of significant threats to festival operations and public safety." The film is about demoralized Russian soldiers on the Ukrainian front.
