Small local initiatives in #hitchhiking work – again! This pleasing read by Kate Elise Norris in Pepperdine Graphic shows how talking to strangers can help mental health. This is no island community, it's California! Nice to see some safety research cited too! pepperdine-graphic.com/pepperdine-stu…
A welcome 'gift economy' return TONIGHT for this great discussion on all things #hitchhiking with some cool road companions! Plenty of history, films, songs, statistics + cardboard signs. Also a plug for 'Driving with strangers' my #vagabond #sociology with Manchester University Press
This is a wonderful collection of heart shaped nature words. I rarely buy poetry outwith book events, but Eileen Carney Hulme keeps catching me unawares. All the right elements of connection to take the breath away. Thank you. hedgehogpress.co.uk/2024/06/21/pre… #toptweettuesday #poetry
Hi @Stanfordstravel Re: top 100 books. 3 that helped me write 'Driving with strangers' = Jay Griffith's 'Wild: An Elemental Journey', richard grant 'Ghost Riders: Travels with US Nomads +Ruairí McKiernan 'Hitching for Hope: Journey to heart + soul of Ireland'. All great💚lenses.
How much do you know about the history of #neurodiversity? My review of Robert Chapman's engaging + empowering genealogy of the often brutal politics of normality. A well crafted, timely + necessary intervention. Pluto Press @socreview thesociologicalreview.org/reviews/empire…
What is inspiring about sloth communism book is that for all the tough history told, there’s an advocacy for an ‘ecology of neurodiversity’, where our differences play an equal part in the social fabric. Today the beauty of David Gee's cover image seems apposite and necessary.
“In using neurodiversity as a sociological lens, Robert Chapman helps to facilitate a more intersectional and hopeful attitude towards how we practise mental health in the future.” Jonathan Purkis reviews sloth communism Pluto Press in our latest issue. buff.ly/3LK5FYq
I'll be talking sociological pick + mix with the fabulous Hannah Kate today. Expecting lively questions about mid life crises as societal allegory, recent #hitchhiking projects + taking 'Driving with strangers' Manchester University Press on the road (maybe in a fridge, but not in lycra).
Collaborative #hitchhiking rules! Dead proud of this open access paper with Patrick LAVIOLETTE . A lively phenomenological road trip. May contain robots + Vogons. Hitchhiking and the Production of Haptic Knowledge mdpi.com/2952060 #mdpihumanities via Humanities
