Our Live DAS feed clearly captured the M5.2 near Lamont and numerous aftershocks. The Bold red/yellow and green horizontal lines represent the strain recorded on the equipment from land deformation along the fiber optic cable's length, which in this case is interpreted as an EQ.

Make sure if you Felt the M4.4 near #HighlandPark that you fill out the USGS "Did You Feel It" form! Your input helps inform the scientists on perceived shaking and intensity! earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/ev…

I need to clarify about seismicity rates in SoCal. Long term average since 1932 is ~10-12 M4s /yr. In the last 20 years, we have averaged about 5 /yr. So far in 2024, we have had 13 M4s. So lots of variability but 2024 is closer to normal than the quiet of the last 2 decades

The Puente Hills thrust fault system is buried and cannot be seen on the Earth's surface. It was defined by the work of many scientists in Statewide California Earthquake Center in the 1980s and 90s. It has been in the national seismic hazard database since the early 2000s

I should have been clearer. This is the number of sequences with at least one M≥4 event. What we call a "declustered catalog". Otherwise all you see are the years with a M7 and all its aftershocks. 2010 is seeing aftershocks to a M7.2 in Baja.

‘Too unstable’: Landslide forcing electricity cutoff to Rancho Palos Verdes homes. Tectonic forces are all expressing the inevitability of gravity. Those of us who live in tectonically active regions should remember that we can’t stop gravity latimes.com/california/sto…
