It’s absolutely staggering in 2024 to watch a debate where both candidates are bickering over who would be better for the oil industry.

The most unbelievable statistic I encountered recently is that only 20% of autistic children in France attend school (in 2018)

Infants and young children in my area are being refused vital developmental checks. I spoke to 1 parent who, instead of getting a check for her child, was sent a letter by the HSE with a QR code to a book she should read.

Sorry but aren’t these two quite different things? We already have (substantially) publicly funded childcare delivered privately. State-delivered childcare is not something afaik they are committing to

Let’s discuss the material issues in the US presidential debate. For example, when discussing her climate change priorities, Harris celebrated record levels of US oil and gas production under the current president. This is not a serious response to the climate crisis.

what's remarkable is the degree of unity between the US parties. Both will continue to cook the planet and to export violence.

X formerly Twitter has been an eye opener for us all by exposing all the former failing RTE employees that are, at best, total reactionaries

Been on the internet since 1999 and it’s never been this bad. Google is useless, once findable information is deleted or buried. Wanton cruelty and sadism used to be contained to places like 4chan now it’s every social media site. Ubiquitous AI imagery is deeply unpleasant to see

What's the value of Democrats winning if you won’t fight for raising the minimum wage, Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, or any other policy you took from the Greens, and instead end up supporting fracking, caging kids, and genocide? Maybe it's time to watch these parties die.

A pet hate of mine is people writing an ‘ontology’ of whatever when they really just mean a conceptualisation, classification or typology of the thing

Eoin Daly (@eoinmauricedaly) 's Twitter Profile Photo

What passes for the left in the US probably had a moment in the mid 2010s but now it’s reduced to Bernie praising the Cheneys and AOC chauvinistically calling Jill Stein a loser all in the service of an administration boasting about maxing oil production and sponsoring genocide

An apparently unpopular opinion: teaching formats enabling remote and therefore *in principle* wider participation in higher education are not *in principle* terrible.

For better and worse, the trend has been automation supplementing, augmenting, and substituting for human labor for quite some time. ChatGPT is part of this trend. AI is coming to and for "white collar," "highly skilled" labor. Our labor is not special.

The thing about this genre of treating people with respect despite ‘political’ differences and making bridges across divides is that it often collapses the moment you stop talking about feelings and start thinking materially

This is why I am always bemused when people blithely chuckle at how bad AI is at doing something *for now*. Tech innovation under capitalism will undercut labour in the long run . It might be a slow process but let’s not be naïve
