I've written a little piece on how the new government will actually govern and why governments have to be both story-tellers and plumbers, with a particular focus on how to get strategy and missions right. geoffmulgan.com/post/poetry-pr…

Lots of confusion and head-scratching in Europe about how to prepare for Donald J. Trump following his @JDVance1 pick. At ECFR we have been thinking about this for a long time. Thread 👇 1/8

Fascinating analysis of what some consider the US' most successful foreign aid programme of the last half century, why economists opposed it, and the (quite complex) lessons to be learned asteriskmag.com/issues/05/pepf…

A nice account of Save the Children's 'common approaches' framework for transferability of 'what works', and how this combines with innovation: evolvingimpact.substack.com/p/3-a-less-com…. Echoes some of the examples in the piece I did a few months ago: theippo.co.uk/transferabilit…

I’ve a piece in Times Higher today on the strange invisibility of university leaders & why they should be more courageous & present in today’s great arguments about truth. They shouldn’t only talk about money & fees: they also have moral responsibilities. timeshighereducation.com/blog/time-quie…

I’ve written on fixing a key missing part of government’s growth plans – the vital role of adoption & diffusion in productivity - & how this reflects gaps in the commentariat’s knowledge base. bit.ly/4e6IovJ John Van Reenen Torsten Bell Josh Simons MP Martin Wolf

Spot on. AI straddles science/engineering & invention/ use (unlike eg pharma, aerospace etc) so UK strategy has to address these in parallel (with adoption strategy particularly focused on sectors like construction where usage levels remain ultra-low).

As I point out 'recent advances in economics don't feature in 'media economics' - how news media cover the economy (focusing on finance, interest rates, spending, pay, employment rates etc but rarely touching on knowledge or adoption...)' - why this is such a policy blind-spot
