Sophie Maiwald Dresden with Tony Heitkam 🌱🔍💚 evolving retrotransposons and 5S rDNA together. Lots of coevolution, but no full 5S rRNA gene with retrotransposon LTR#IBC2024

Beautiful and hard work on getting full assembly of rDNA by Pat Heslop-Harrison I was so much into it I didn't take a pic! Thanks Pat for sharing slides #OpenAccess #IBC2024

We continue with Christian Parisod at the #Transposon_takeover session at the #IBC2024. He presents dynamics of centromeric transposable elements. He uses Biscutella spp. as model, with a recent WGD (11.5 MYA). Centromeres in these species are not conserved. (1/2)

#Transposon_takeover session at the #IBC2024 continues with Nicola Schmidt who is presenting about repeats and stable chromosomes in sugar beet. Different species have different ploidy levels with different content in repeat, mostly LTR retrotransposons (1/2)

Trude Schawarzacher & Pat Heslop-Harrison continue in this #transposon_takeover session at #IBC2024 with a great presentation about ERPVs, diversity and evolution. They are wide spread in plants. ePVCV are clustered with Ty3-gypsy TE in petunia (1/2)

I'm recruiting a postdoc to work on the evolutionary genetics of introgression, following on our recent work (doi.org/10.1126/scienc…). This is a 2yr joint position w/ collaborators at Huazhong Agricultural University, and the pdoc will spend 1 year at each locale. Please share!
