We are watching a disaster unfolding in real-time as lava from newly opened volcanic fissure is now entering Grindavík, engulfing first houses in the northern part of the town.

Monstrous eruption underway at Ruang volcano, just north of Sulawesi, Indonesia. I’ve never seen estimated ash cloud tops of 63,000ft / 19,000m before in Asia. Clearly visible on IR satellite imagery too.

anybody have recommendations for the best places to get (verified, technical) updates on the new eruption at ruang? watching with bated breath, it looks like a really terrifying situation

#Yellowstone Park staff are on scene assessing conditions after a small hydrothermal explosion occurred today (July 23) in #BiscuitBasin. There are no reports of injuries. The boardwalk, on the other hand, will need a few repairs. The area remains temporarily closed. NPS photos.
