Following the careful removal of the ceiling deck at Dover's Maison Dieu last week, the re-instated William Burges ceiling design on the Connaught Hall ceiling has been revealed in all its glory! The work is being carried out by conservators from Arte Conservation.

Work is progressing to reinstate William Burges' Neo-gothic decorative scheme in the Mayor's Parlour at the #MaisonDieu Specialists from Arte Conservation have been working on domed recesses on the ceiling, including colourful painted and stencilled designs and real gold leaf.

The fantastic work by wall painting specialists #ArteConservation continues in the Mayor's Parlour at #Dover's historic #MaisonDieu with these exotic birds! They are being stencilled on corbels high around the room and are surrounded by dazzling gold leaf!

Lucy, one of our wall paintings' specialists from #ArteConservation, has been busy stencilling the Neo-gothic decorative scheme by William Burges along the front of the Connaught Hall balcony. The 1930s black and white photo was a great help in establishing the precise layout!
