Loved this story by Talia Lavin. As a historian of medieval religious history, I found the questions it raises about what change in traditional religious communities looks like fascinating.

Asking people whose human rights are being violated “why don’t they just leave” everything they know and believe in when, they cry out about the ways their society fails them, strikes me as cruel indifference - not to mention intellectual laziness

Statements like this can seem hyperbolic or alarmist but this is literally what they did last time! Donald Trump lost and a murderous crowd stormed the capital.
There's no reason to think the response to an electoral loss will be more subdued this time.
