Sometimes simple models, proposed years ago, turn out not so bad! This preprint shows that E-P interactions control expression, that cohesin helps mediating these interactions, esp. for distal enhancers (>50kb), see also work from Wendy Bickmore in NSMB. doi.org/10.1101/2024.0…

Really excited about work led by Jesse Engreitz and Philine seeking to harmonize two long-standing & potentially contradictory observations: if cohesin is so important to the formation of chromatin loops, why doesn't degrading it have a bigger impact on gene expression?

Nice - cohesin may only be required for enhancer-promoter comm for distal enhancers (>50kb). This nicely extends (and generalises) findings from Wendy Bickmore at shh locus, tethering a TF at different distances. There 100kb was the tested cut off - interesting to see even 50kb

Cohesin is important for enhancers far away - addressing a long-standing question in the gene regulation field. Great method and work from Philine Jesse Engreitz👇

I haven't posted much on ye olde bird app recently, but doing my best to make up for it with some BIG NEWS... Introducing DNA O-MAP, a new technology developed with Devin Schweppe for determining the molecular composition of specific genomic loci 🧵 1/25 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Excited to share that I am joining UT Southwestern a TT Assistant Professor in the Dept of Pediatrics with a secondary appointment in Molecular Biology! The Lee Lab will open in Sept 2024, focusing on the genetic determinants of cardiovascular development and disease. #NewPI
