Volunteers are sprucing up schoolyards across the district to help welcome students back to clean, safe campuses! Today dozens of schools held Community Care Day events. Parents, students and staff all gathered to pick weeds, clean up litter, plant flowers and more.

This year’s bell schedules will change for many students as we standardize the day for additional instruction and planning time. This is what a typical day will look like for all the different grade levels.

Thank you to everyone on the Community Care Team at George Middle School! Over the weekend, they helped clean up the campus to make it ready for the first day of school. It was all part of the district-wide Community Care Day. Dozens of other schools participated as well.

Student Health Centers at Cleveland, Franklin, Jefferson, McDaniel and Roosevelt open tomorrow (Tuesday Aug. 27). Call your nearest center to make an appointment. Some same day appointments are available. Hours are 7:45am to 3:45pm most days.

For the first day of school, Supt. Dr. Kimberlee Armstong rode the bus to school so she could get the same experience as the students. Dr. Armstrong then toured Woodlawn to meet staff, students and parents. She even handed out pencils for their first writing assignment.

Such a heartwarming tradition! Every year at ACCESS Academy, returning students create an Arch of Friendship to welcome new students and staff. Everyone lines up along the pathway outside of the school to clap, cheer and high five the new students and staff on their first day.
