#ATNFflashbackFriday 1965 This film was produced four years after our #Parkes radio telescope, Murriyang, began operating. Called ‘Window into Space’, it gives a great insight into the technology of the time. Watch here: vimeo.com/134810705

What can #Parkes radio telescope, #Murriyang detect? Radio waves from seven millimetres to four metres long. The telescope can be pointed with an accuracy better than 11 arcseconds – about the width of a finger seen 150 metres away. Pic: A. Cherney

#Parkes radio telescope, Murriyang, has seen many upgrades in its 60+ years. Now, it’s ten thousand times more sensitive than when first commissioned in 1961 and still one the best radio telescopes in the world. More here: csiro.au/en/about/facil…

#ATNFflashbackFriday 1971 This is a photo montage showing the control room of our #Parkes radio telescope, #Murriyang, during the Apollo 15 mission. It was the 9th crewed mission in the Apollo program and the 4th to land on the Moon.

#DYK Astronomers studied the ‘double pulsar’ system, which had been found using our #Parkes radio telescope – Murriyang, for 16 years to test Einstein’s theory of general relativity. Read the story here: blog.csiro.au/giving-einstei…. Pic: John Rowe Animation

Our observatory in WA has been gifted a Wajarri name! 📡 Inyarrimanha Ilgari Bundara, CSIRO's Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory. This dual name means 'sharing sky and stars' and represents the Wajarri Yamaji's long connection to Country as the region's first astronomers. ⭐️

The first fast radio burst #FRB was discovered in 2007 using our #Parkes radio telescope, #Murriyang. The team found an incredibly bright pulse that some astronomers didn’t believe was real. The story so far: blog.csiro.au/what-we-know-s… Image: CSIRO/Sam Moorfield
